Every Walt Disney World park except the Magic Kingdom currently has a major construction project in the works. Epcot has the newly Frozen-ified Norway pavilion, Disney’s Animal Kingdom has Pandora: The World of Avatar and Disney’s Hollywood Studios has the twin Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land projects on the horizon. Which leaves the Magic Kingdom. While some may say that Walt Disney World is purposefully leaving its flagship park as-is during this time of massive change around the resort, Disney has never been one to stand still, and another big project definitely wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility, especially as work concludes this year on the massive hub expansion project as well as the Skippers Canteen conversion.
So what might be next for the Magic Kingdom then? Some insiders say that a “new Frontierland” along the lines of the “New Fantasyland project” may kick off in the next few years, adding some extra space, a new restaurant and perhaps even a new ride to the far side Frontierland (near Big Thunder Mountain). Though specifics weren’t made available, no one is expecting any traction on this rumor for at least the next few years. However, looking broadly into the future, we could indeed see a new Frontierleand expansion in the card for the Magic Kingdom, especially as it gets ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2021.
